@Eric Donkersloot, Can you please try the ppa at: https://launchpad.net/~csurbhi/+archive/lucid and let me know if it works for you? The upstream kernel code has changed the way it handles the display and does not rely on the lid status reported by bios code anymore. This ppa includes the upstream patches.
