Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs
Floppy Drive Inoperative under Karmic I have three machines with built-in floppy drives, and none of the drives work under Karmic. All three are perfectly OK under Hardy, as they were under various flavours of Windows previously. I tried ading my user id to the group 'floppy' (why is this not the default?), but it didn't help. It did however allow me to load a Virtual Box module with floppy drive mounted - not that it worked within the Virtual Box Windows XP either. I found that if I added read and write for all users to /dev/fd0 on a freshly-booted machine and then immediately loaded Windows XP within the VB, It could read the first floppy presented, but only the first. The drive 'busy' led lit and stayed alight for the duration of the presence of the module, which I was not very happy about. I don't think I can get any further under my own steam! Obviously few people still use floppies and indeed I can use my USB-mounted floppy drive if I need to. Equally obviously, something is wrong. ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Built-in floppy drive inoperative under Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
