Hum, that's… interesting :) I can't reproduce that here. It really seems to be a user specific change. Btw, the good to install UNE is either: - install a desktop edition and then installing ubuntu-netbook package which will grab everything that you need - installing UNE iso directly.
With that, you can have either at GDM the choice between a normal GNOME session or an UNE one.
