While I admire your paranoia :) I must say that it's not a spying feature, it's the new Me Menu [1]. It just provides a simpler interface to your social networking accounts so you can, for example, change your Facebook status from your desktop. And because it's open source, everyone can (and has, don't worry) verify by inspecting it's source code that there aren't any spying features that share your private tweets with the world. As for the fact that you can't remove the Me Menu without removing the session applet, that is already known and is being resolved.
