It's rather weird. I had set it to stereo as it was the only way the sound was bearable. I altered the SB X-Fi profile in the Volume Control configuration tab and something is quite wrong. I just tested this setup in Windows just to make sure (it works there), everything seems to be connected correctly all speakers are working and the proper speaker is audible when it is supposed to be. The problem in ubuntu is: the sound is still a little pitchy (but better than before); I have a 5.1 speaker system and it won't work properly with 5.1 analog output. I don't here voices (just background stuff from the surround sound media) and I can't get the subwoofer to function. On 4.1 (although I have 5.1) I can basically hear everything but the subwoofer still does nothing. So it seems like the channels are messed up and the subwoofer doesn't work at all.
