I'm happy to report that a test kernel package provided to me by Stefan Bader now gives the following in /dev/sndstat:
Card config: HDA Intel at 0xee240000 irq 17 ThinkPad Console Audio Control at EC reg 0x30, fw 79HT50WW-1.07 [...] Mixers: 0: Analog Devices AD1981 29: ThinkPad EC 79HT50WW-1.07 The mixer is accessible using 'alsamixer -c 29', in read-only mode as expected.
