I have first tested this with the newest kernel version inside the normal repository (2.6.31.20) and I seem to have more luck now. Suspend works fine for multiple times. However, I did have the problem that the first resume takes about 63 seconds and subsequent ones a more reasonable time 3-4 seconds.
After examining dmesg I discovered that my dvb-usb kernel module was the cause. I have added the following lines to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and have no problems anymore:
blacklist dvb-usb blacklist dvb_usb_dib0700
-- [ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
