Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

1. While reinstalling Kubuntu Lucid beta, package installation failed
and screen went red

2. Backed out to ncurses menu and attempted to rerun install software
step and encountered error again.

3. Remainder of install (install and configure boot loader) proceeded
without further incident.

4. Installed all desired software without difficulty after "first use"
reboot. Because this was a reinstall, I had a list of previously
installed packages and called it using (as root) dpkg --set-selections <
<filename> && dselect

5. Am unable to run ubuntu-bug or apport to report this bug. This is
because, after running jockey to install a proprietary video driver and
rebooting, all calls to the Internet fail with an "unknown host" DNS
error. This is particularly perplexing because I can ping the router and
other hosts on the home network without difficulty.

6. Reproduced this entire series of events by repeating install.

7. Have therefore filed this bug from an installation of karmic on the
same host. A gzipped tarball is attached with /var/log/installer/ and
/var/log/syslog from the failed installation of lucid.

8. After rebooting, noted that apt-cdrom add command *_failed_*. This
might be linked to this trouble report.

** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
