Had the exact same problem, but on multiple platforms (Win XP/Vista/Jaunty/Karmic). Not first when Dell replaced my WNIC did the "Mac is in deep sleep" etc errors go away.
I had them replace it by reporting problems with the NIC not working as well as intermittent WNIC related problems (mac is in deep sleep, vista dying when opening network manager and so on). -- Startup BUG!!
