Please install the linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-17-generic package from the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA http://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio- dev/+archive and reboot. Please test to see if the problem you are experiencing has been fixed and report back with the results.
