Public bug reported: Binary package hint: upstart
The past few times I have updated Upstart through Ubuntu (both karmic and Lucid versions), my system refuses to load after reboot. My system gets to the Grub Splash screen and then hangs, with the CAPS lock blinking. Solution: boot LiveCD (I use the Karmic CD) and replace local /sbin/init with init from the LiveCD. This corrects issues and boot is restored. I am not sure what details I can provide which may be helpful, since the init seems to be what is failing, so i doubt any logs are being written during unsuccessful boots. I wanted to post this bug partially as a guide to other users with the same issue after updating, in order to get them back up and running.
