Hi Verstaete, we're a little behind on this stuff - our kernels don't have mmiotrace in Beta 1 but will do before Lucid releases. Your best bet for now is to boot with "nomodeset" (you can access this by pressing a key at the initial logo when the Live CD boots, then F6 for options) - and then once installed install the nvidia-glx binary driver from the hardware drivers menu
