Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-ati

When I switch between virtual X screens with ctrl+alt+arrow, sometimes
the entire system freezes totally. It does not respond to keys or mouse,
any music playing is stopped etc. The windows on the old desktop are
cleared and the new ones are drawn with their widget background colors,
but they don't contain any graphics or other content. Sometimes this
happens several times per day, but sometimes everything works fine for
days.

I have been unable to trigger this bug in any other way than switching
between virtual desktops.

I have a Thinkpad T30 with the following graphics chip:

0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon
Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed
