Sorry because I'm being late to answer this bug. Two incidents in the
same upgrade made this error possible:
:. 1st of all, (my) /etc/apt/preferences was a way too restrictive (ok, I know
my policy towards some Ubuntu stuff is pretty bold);
:. And last but not least, I think 'safe-rm' messed up while update-manager
removed the old 'perl-modules' package to install the new one from lucid repo.
I believe anyone can reproduce this installing 9.10, shortly after
install safe-rm and then try 'sudo update-manager -d' .
After my unsuccessful attempt to update from karmic to lucid, I just
removed safe-rm ('sudo dpkg -r safe-rm') and fixed whole thing through
synaptic.
About the log files, there are too many attempts here. Maybe it's better
just do something like 'grep -r erro /var/log/dist-upgrade/*' instead of
attaching several files. Anyway I'm sending the last ones.
