This was a testing version of Ubuntu that is now the officially supported release. I think we can safely close this bug report as whatever was the issue is likely fixed. Neither the kernel nor the OpenOffice.org versions are current any longer. With Ubuntu 10.04 forthcoming we can probably leave this one behind. My apologies for not further investigating the issue.
