hynek, I don't think you need to do an install. You can try the live image located here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

I have an old machine and 9.10 didn't work one week without a problem caused inadvertently by updates or an installation of software where it deleted files necessary to run other programmes. The last time something had happened to monitor it wouldnˇt turn on kept sending messages about Low mode and nothing could be done. I am an user and canˇt afford to spend hours reading manuals that are not meant for users https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds didn't get me anywhere though I was trying, (perhaps because there is nothing said what to do in Terminal or else simply how to) However I think it is still an issue since I am not the only one having this problem which could be caused by some malware. I got used to copy important things on flashcard since I begun to use Ubuntu. Thank you for interest and again apologise for not upgrading but I need the machine working for at least a month without having it reinstalled and losing data and programmes again. -- computer failing to go to sleep mode reports no battery detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
