I also have an Xgi Volari CP5 card When booting Edgy or Feisty Herd 5, I get a black screen when X starts and the system hangs.
Installing Dapper works fine (it uses the vesa driver). After upgrading Dapper to Edgy the system does not want to start X. The xorg.conf was not changed, so the vesa driver does not work anymore with XGI Volari card.
