The VT7 and VT8 I reported earlier were for my desktop (fresh 64-bit install, binary nvidia driver, text-mode plymouth). My laptop (fresh 32-bit install, Intel 945GM, graphical-mode plymouth) also has VT7 for the crashy session and VT8 for the working one according to the log files.
Does anyone else see VT7 and VT8 in their Xorg.0.log[.old] files?
