I can now say for certain that it's not Firefox related as I've had two "freezes" within an hour when Firefox was not even running.
In the first instance I was using the Terminal and had just run "sudo grub-install /dev/sda", as soon as I hit the enter key things locked up. It did complete if that matters, that is the grub-install op succeeded. In the second instance I'd just launched Synaptic from the menu and entered my password, as soon as hit the enter key to authenticate things locked up. In both instances the clock stopped running, both keyboard and mouse seemed dead, no cursor or mouse pointer would appear, it was not possible to kill X, but Alt + SysReq + B caused a reboot. And since in those two instances I'd just hit the enter key I think Chris Johnston is onto something. In the two previous instances I was typing fast so I can't be absolutely sure what key killed it. So it is a real bug. Somewhat off topic but VIA got no love in Karmic, I mean I just had to give up on it altogether because of hard freezes - different than this - but I think I should revisit that and get a new bug filed. The same graphics card has been well supported since at least Gutsy. -- Lucid X freezes while typing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
