I'm experiencing the same problem. Strangely, not the whole primary screen is affected. Only certain kinds of outputs.
Example for reproduction: Fresh install of Kubuntu Edgy Eft 64bit - linux-restricted-modules: 2.6.17.7-10.1 - nvidia-glx 1.0.8776+2.6.17.7-11.2 - xserver-xorg 1:7.1.1ubuntu6.2 - xserver-xorg-core 1:1.1.1-0ubuntu12.1 MSI Geforce FX 5600XT Twinview enabled. Setting the wallpaper to *any* gradient (vertical, horizontal) shows the gradient fine on the second monitor, but on the primary monitor you see a handful of simple-colored bars (like out of a 16 colors palette) The above statement that this problem is only happening with horizontal gradients is not true. What's strange is that "normal" windows (browser, konsole, ...) are colored correctly. I've seen this problem occur for: - wallpaper - screensaver - videos (kaffeine, VLC, ...)
