Aaron, I'm curious if you see the 'cleared details' bug in more recent versions? Could you try Lucid's version or try the upstream Deja Dup testing PPA? I think I may have fixed this.
The 'log grows when I'm not at the bottom' is a feature (hopefully not a misfeature). The log can be enormous, and rather than keeping that all in memory, I only keep the last 200 lines or so. Unless the user sees something and scrolls back up.
