Public bug reported: I am running Kubuntu 9.10 on a laptop.
A few seconds after I connect to the network, either using WLAN or Ethernet, the KDE desktop (i.e. the KDE menu button, the task bar and all widgets on the desktop and the task bar) freeze. In addition, web browsers (google chrome, firefox, wget) although responsive, are unable to connect to the Internet. The problem seems to affect TCP sockets in general, since 'telnet www.google.com 80' also does not work. However, 'ping www.yahoo.com' works normally. Killing knetworkmanager de-freezes the system after 1 or 2 minutes. Logging out and in of KDE also de-freezes the system. Connecting again causes the freeze. The problem occurred occasionally in the past and I usually worked around it by logging out and in. Now it has become systematic. Unfortunately, since I cannot connect to the Internet from the affected system I cannot report the bug via the standard tools. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- TCP sockets and plasmoids freeze when connecting to the network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
