I still have this problem some of the time on my AMD Phenom II x4 /AMD 785 chipset machine, using the onboard sound. It happens on maybe 20% of boots and cannot be fixed except by rebooting.
When the problem occurs, the mute/unmute greys out, the volume control shows muted and does not respond. The "sound preferences" bar DOES respond, but nothing else does on the sound indicator. All other mixers work and sound plays normally-except for Audacity. Audacity, using ALSA and not pulse due to recording problems in pulse, shows pulseaudio not "letting go" of the sound card with nothing else playing and won't use the "hw0,0" locations, as is normal with ALSA if another device is playing sound. As a result, I cannot use Audacity when this problem occurs and must reboot. -- indicator sound greyed out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/521286 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
