I'm currently working on a project which exports a scripting API to ~8 different languages, including PHP.
I can't distribute it correctly to Debian and Ubuntu users as it requires the PHP embed SAPI which is not provided by any packages. I do not like PHP either, but my users asked for PHP scripting support. Currently, deploying my project requires a custom PHP package.
