With Kubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 (i386) the divided screen only is shown out of X. That means the bootsplash (of the desktop live CD and installation) is horizontally divided and when I'm on a virtual console (which also affects the alternate installer as shown in the screenshot above). The login screen of KDM and the KDE desktop is ok. So I guess it's not xserver-xorg-video-sis?
