Why does this affect the nvidia-graphics-drivers-180? Aren't those the non-free drivers? I assume that the livecd uses the nouveau drivers. I have the same problem with Aplha3 (64 bits) running the Livecd from a USB key. After waiting for a while with the black screen, I tried switching the VTs but nothing happened, then I just pressed the enter key and the screen blinked again and I got to the GDM login screen. I'm on a Dell Precision M90, that has a Quadro FX1500 (G71),
