In recent development versions of software center in lucid (current
version is 1.1.14), the behavior when installing a package has changed.
Now, the "In Progress" section is no longer automatically displayed as
it was in older versions such as the one in Karmic. Instead, a small
progress bar is displayed directly inside the list row itself for the
package being installed. With this change, you can simply continue to
browse packages while others are installing, and there is no
interruption or unexpected switching of the list display at the
completion of an install or remove.

This new version is available in lucid for testing if desired, or you
can simply wait for the release of 10.04 LTS, the Lucid Lynx, scheduled
for the end of April.

Thanks!
