I also just finished patching current Ubuntu 9.10 xorg (2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.1) and it works perfectly. The patch applied cleanly with no issues, and after that my XKB shortcut (ALT+SHIFT) switches only on release and ALT+SHIFT based application shortcuts work as expected.
