Public bug reported:

Release: 9.10

After upgrade from kernel 2.6.31-16 to 2.6.31-17, my external microphone
stopped recording, although it still works fine in 2.6.31-16. Playback
of sound is no problem in all kernels. The problem also exists in kernel
2.6.31-19. I need to boot into kernel 2.6.31-16 in order to be able to
record sound (i.e. Skype, Sound Recorder). You can find a description of
the problem in my forum post here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8663649#post8663649

Please advise what technical data you need as I am not sure what exactly
causes this problem. I only know it works in kernel 2.6.31-16, but not
in the newer ones.

Maybe his might be the cause of the problem?

Right-click on the Sound Icon in the top right corner and check the
following:

In the hardware tab, it is set to analog stereo duplex, input is set to
internal audio analog stereo (no other choice here) and the mic is NOT
muted (playing with the volume doesn't help either) and output is set to
internal audio analog stereo (again, no other choice) and connector is
set to analog output (here I can switch to analog headphones or analog
speaker, but makes no difference)

I can choose between Microphone 1 and Microphone 2 in the input tab in
kernel 2.6.31-16; this option is somehow gone in kernels 2.6.31-17 to
2.6.31-19 (i.e. only the option internal audio analog stereo is
available)

Thank you for your support!
