Thank you for taking the time to file this bug report. There are a couple of different things you can try in order to get your sound working again.
First, since your upgrade was only partial, you can try running: sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade This will look for what packages are not upgraded and should upgrade them for you. If you experience errors there, please let us know. Second, you can try reinstalling the 'pulseaudio' package, which is most likely causing the problem you are experiencing.
