I am also experiencing this problem on my Dell Latitude E5500 using the
live CD. I have tested six times, each time with a fresh reboot from
the Live CD. The following are my results:

1. Installation screen/progress bar never went away
2. Machine rebooted
3. Screen went blank, and scroll lock and numlock keys blinked
4. Worked perfectly. Surfed web, installed software, transferred 400MB file
from the network. No problems.
5. Screen went blank, and scroll lock and numlock keys blinked
6. Screen went blank, and scroll lock and numlock keys blinked

I also had similar problems under Karmic's final release. At the time I
just went back to using Jaunty. The machine works fine under Jaunty --
in fact, the wireless card works immediately in Jaunty with no driver
installation required.
