I have made steps lined out in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting from a lucid live CD from daily-live 20100131. The hotkeys pressing result is the same as in #1 post.
Hotkeys don't work: vol+, vol-, play/pause, stop, next, previous, mail, web, program key, acer empowering key.
