Had a similar problem with a friend's canon - inserted usb cable,
clicked "yes, import," and nothing happened. Went into fspot and tried
to do an import. The camera showed up, but I got an error message when
I tried to import. Then when I went back to try again it worked. But
the next day after a similar series of events when I went back to try
the fspot import again the camera didn't show up in the list, but popped
up the initial Gnome "camera detected - what do you want to do" dialog.
Tried again with the same result.

On an edgy computer the initial gnome import method works fine.

Vague and verbose, I know. But I don't have the computers or camera
handy.
