Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

When I launch pidgin from the Applications menu and go to the user
switcher applet to set the status, all the options are greyed out.
However, once I change the status of pidgin to 'Available' from the
pidgin menu, user switcher applet becomes aware of pidgin and allows me
to change the status from thereon.
