I had this problem on my eeepc 1201 ION on karmic ubuntu (2.6.31-17-generic). I upgrade to 2.6.33-020633rc4-generic with the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.30-pkg2.run nividia drivers.
I submitted my netbook to highload (I found out that the freeze occured mostly on heavy hdd access ) Several hours after .. still no freeze ... seems i's fixed ..
