Why are panel applets deprecated? I've recently read that it is bad UI design to use the notification for permanent stuff and that it should only be used for notifications. That was the reason why pidgin per default does not have an icon anymore there in ubuntu but instead there is that user switch thing where one can set the status – why is it now the other way round?
I for myself don't want to remove the applet, I just want to decide where I want it to be.
