I'm not entirely sure what the motivations were for fts but I think it's
to do with sanity checking to ensure that nothing has been moved around
underneath a file system traversal... But again, not entirely sure about
that.

One thing that does worry me is that I have no idea where else fts is
used... coreutils and findutils so far but could well be in other places
- which i guess would be the good thing about a kernel fix.

When I tested on MacOSX I also tested on Ubuntu 9.10 with the same
version (7.4). I compiled it with the default configure options (apart
from install location).
