Selecting the STA driver (wl.ko) has, at least in the past,
automatically created a blacklist file

/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf
# Warning: This file is autogenerated by bcmwl-kernel-source. All changes to
this file will be lost.
blacklist b43
blacklist b43legacy
blacklist ssb
blacklist bcm43xx

Does this file still exist? I am using the STA driver too and did not
notice breakage. But the messages seen indicate that for some reason the
b43 driver gets activated.
