Hello. I'm new to all this so I apologise if I'm still Doing It Wrong.
Presumably following an update, my firefox attempts to start from the
Applications menu but doesn't, and if I try launching it from the terminal I
get a segfault. I have tried uninstalling it, purging and uninstalling etc. If
I download the version from the web site and extract it, I can run that version
from the desktop. However, I was advised by a friend not to use this version as
it would 'screw up updates until the END OF TIME.'
I looked at Micah's link and followed the instructions. I tried to do a
backtrace, but that said ""/usr/bin/firefox": not in executable format: File
format not recognised" so I assume I did something wrong there.
I also tried valgrind and strace. These both gave the segfault but did generate
logfiles. I can't figure out how to attach more than one file, so I've put them
in a .tar.gz, I hope that's acceptable.
