It seems that there is something wrong with the kernel package or the installation of them. Have you tried the suggested workaround which is to install it again (with dpkg -i) before removing it? If you are unsure which kernel is running at any point, the command `uname -a` will tell you which one it is.
Since the 799 kernel did not freeze, it is most likely the commit after that which triggers the freezes.
