tz i have solved the problem. the key is in Sys>Admin>Printing>New Printer>"Other". by selecting "Other", a URI request is made, and in it one enters "bluetooth://<MAC addr> where MAC addr is the addr of my BT-200 which is connected to the HP 4 printer parallel port. the epiphany came when i started working with Ubuntu 9.10. but on a computer with 9.04, i made the requisite URI entry and the computer easily connect to the printer. it of course seems simple and somewhat obvious now, but this is how these things nearly always go. at any rate, i am now moving completely to the linux (Ubuntu) platform save for ACAD2000 (which i still will try to get to work under WINE.
