Thank you for verifying that the problem is still present in Lucid. I have tried to reproduce it on my wife's computer (which has 945GM) with a LiveCD, but that particular model apparently doesn't have this problem. When you upgrade, the old kernels are not uninstalled. That is why you had several kernels to choose from. 2.6.32-9 should be the standard Lucid kernel. I think the hint is called a tooltip. It's okay to use 64-bit.
