Similarly, sometimes sound will be very scratchy and "pop" in and out
repeatedly.
One workaround I've discovered is to close other audio sources
(especially Firefox+flash), killall -9 pulseaudio, wait about 10 seconds
for it to restart automatically, and then run wine again. This seems to
prevent the scratchy issues as well, although when another application
(eg pidgin) generates audio they can often return.
