Hi. Can you please remove the model quirk you have entered into
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (i.e. remove the "model=auto" line) &
install the "linux-backports-module-alsa-generic" package, then reboot &
try testing again. If that doesn't resolve your issue, please see below
on how to submit more information to help resolve your problem.

Please include the information requested from the "Reporting Sound Bugs"
section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems as separate
attachments.

If you are using Jaunty or Karmic this information can be gathered for
you automatically using the command apport-collect -p alsa-base
BUGNUMBER where BUGNUMBER is the number of the bug you've reported.
