Public bug reported: Ubuntu 9.10 Linux 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 17:01:44 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
For some reason, when my system is rebooted, one of the harddrive (always the same) is sometimes missing. This problem is very random and may occurs once in ten. Looking at dmesg, I can observe the following error when the bug occurs : [ 1.755454] ata2.00: ATA-7: ST3500630AS, 3.AAK, max UDMA/133 [ 1.755457] ata2.00: 976773168 sectors, multi 1: LBA48 NCQ (depth 31/32) [ 1.810141] ata2.00: model number mismatch 'ST3500630AS' != '3500630AS <80>^P' [ 1.810144] ata2.00: revalidation failed (errno=-19) [ 1.810147] ata2: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps [ 1.810149] ata2.00: limiting speed to UDMA/133:PIO3 [ 7.170030] ata2: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300) [ 7.190140] ata2.00: failed to IDENTIFY (INIT_DEV_PARAMS failed, err_mask=0x80) [ 7.190143] ata2.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5) [ 7.190145] ata2.00: disabled Rebooting the system will, most of the time, "solve" the problem. Note that this drive contains a bootable NTFS (WinXP) partition and when it is booted on XP (dual-boot using grub), the drive runs flawlessly. For this reason, I doubt it can be a HW problem (HDD diag tools also shows an healthy drive). ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Randomly missing harddrive on reboot : dmesg -> "model number mismatch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
