The above suggestion seems very relevant to me. I have multiple pc's with ubuntu installed for computer illiterate relatives. Lately the computer of my mother in law got an incidental shutdown during update. I could not log in remotely to fix things, it turned out that the update got interrupted while it was busy with the ssh server.
I would very much like an option that would prevent shutdown/restart/logout while an update is being performed.
