I apologize - I figured out this morning the problem is not Impress, but the capabilities of MS PowerPoint. Apparently, the Microsoft product cannot do strikethroughs.
Because of my work environment, I have to save everything in a Microsoft format in order to be compatible with other systems. I had been saving this as a *.ppt, and am so used to doing this, I had not considered that the problem was the format of PowerPoint. Please close this bug - in retrospect, it was submitted in error.
