have seen that one. I thought it'd be in the logs and reports apport
compiled but I didn't examine the submission thoroughly this time.

I had thought that this might be another example of some other 8139too
problems I have seen discussed but those don't seem to be midstream
dropouts like my problem. I thought it might have something to do with
standby or screensaver issues but I have those turned off and it can
happen even when the system is active. My current guess is that it has
something to do with loading as a means to explain why it happens faster
with LAN data dumps and slower with web browsing, usually. I haven't
figured out a way to reliably test that, though. The ifdown OK but ifup
hang and the need to power off to reset tell me something is getting
stuck sideways and the driver can't see it.
