My apologies I didn't repeat your steps the first time to see for myself. Which is what I should have done.
** Summary changed: - application "Art Manager" does not install + [regression] gnome-app-install does not deal well with dependencies when they are selectable as well ** Description changed: + New description: + + The package "gnome-art" has as a dependency the package "gnome-splash- + screen-manager". + + However, gnome-app-install isn't aware of this, so when you select + "gnome-art" it does not automatically select "gnome-splash-screen- + manager". + + This does not cause problems when you click [ok]. + But it does cause problems when you click [apply] first and then [ok]. + In which case it thinks you want to remove both packages again because 'gnome-splash-screen-manager' is not selected. + + Possible Solution: + + - after apply, gnome-app-install should refresh to the current situation + - when selecting one package, also select all dependencies that are selectable within gnome-app-install. + + This is a regression, in the past it refreshed after applying changes. + + ==================================== + Original description: Ubunto herd 4 I opened [ Add/Remove]... I checked the box for [ Other] and "Art Manager" (Install themes from art.gnome.oorg website)... clicked on [Apply] button... and got "Apply the following changes?" window... (so far so good) got "Changes applied" window... and then it does its check routine... a new windows pops up "New Applications" (To launch an application double-click on it) ... and the selection inside the panel is "Art Manager". So far so good. close that panel and click [OK] to end Add/Remove session .. then a new panel pops open and asks ... "Apply The following changes?" huh?? I thought I did that ?? and the selection reads "Remove - Splash Screen" (Select a splash screen image) ... click on [Apply] and when done ... the Art Manager application is no where to be found. It has no entry in the main menu. If you click on [Cancel] instead of [Apply] it just lopps and you are again presentned with the "Remove" windows and so you must press [Apply] or you are stuck in the loop. Goto [Control Center] and check the [Main Menu] and under the "Other" category there is nothing. Art Manager application is not installed. I tried this several times with the same results. -ray -- [regression] gnome-app-install does not deal well with dependencies when they are selectable as well https://launchpad.net/bugs/88246 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
