I agree with Tony Butler. I have the same problem on a Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop which could be easily solved by loading a custom DSDT. Unfortunately Toshiba does not do anything about it and therefore I have to find another solution! (and therefore in the future I will never buy a Toshiba anymore)
Unfortunately the decision taken by Kubuntu community to not allow to load custom DSDT leads to force users (like me) to find other solutions (maybe change the distribution).
